How do they work, and which one should you choose?
A bar of soap suspended above the sink or in the shower: how does it stay in place? The SAVONT system has two parts. A small metal soap disc is pressed into the soap. A soap holder with a magnet attracts the disc.
The disc stays with the soap, while the holder remains attached in place. To wash your hands, simply lift the soap off the magnet and put it back afterwards. The soap can then dry without sitting in water.
But soap discs come in different sizes and shapes. Here is what each one does and how to choose the right one.
How does the soap disc stay in the soap?
Look at a SAVONT soap disc from the side: its outer face is metal, with small teeth on the other side. These teeth are pressed into the soap. The metal face remains visible so that it can connect with the magnet in the soap holder.
The teeth have an important job. They hold the disc in place while the soap is suspended and when you pick it up. Most importantly, they keep it in the soap when you lift the soap off the holder: the magnet is still attracting the metal while your hand pulls the soap in the opposite direction.
That is why the hold does not depend on the disc alone. It also depends on the soap’s consistency, the attraction of the holder and how you remove the soap.
What is special about the new crown-shaped soap disc?
The new SAVONT crown-shaped soap disc measures 24 mm in diameter. What makes it different is the shape of its teeth. They are rounded and have small recessed areas where the soap can settle. This helps the disc grip the soap. With use, the soap gets wet and then dries again; it may also come to fit more closely around the teeth.
It might seem that longer teeth would always hold better. In practice, they would also be harder to press into a firm bar of soap and could trap more soap when only a small piece is left. With this crown shape, SAVONT has sought a balance: a secure grip in the soap while keeping the disc easy to insert and reuse.
The teeth are also smoothed and softened through a finishing process called tumbling. They are not designed as sharp points.
What is the smaller 19 mm SMART soap disc for?
A small bar of soap or a compact solid shampoo has less material around the disc than a large bar. The SMART Ø 19 mm disc takes up less space: it covers less of the soap’s surface and leaves more available for lathering.
It is intended for use with a holder suited to smaller bars, such as Protector SMART or Light Edition Mini. Protector SMART has a gentler magnetic attraction, making it easier to remove some delicate soaps and solid shampoos. The 19 mm diameter does not, by itself, make the magnet gentler: the holder and soap disc work together.
Why does the metal of the soap disc matter?
Many discs for magnetic soap holders are described as “stainless steel”. But that label does not tell the whole story: stainless steel is a family of steels, and their resistance to corrosion varies with their composition and conditions of use. None is completely immune to rust. Because the disc stays in soap that is regularly wet, SAVONT selects high-quality stainless steel suited to prolonged contact with soap and moisture. This choice applies to all SAVONT soap discs, whether classic, decorative, SMART or crown-shaped.
It is intended to limit corrosion as well as certain dark deposits or discoloration that can appear in contact with soap and be mistaken for rust. When the soap is used up, you can remove the disc, clean it and use it in a new bar.
Why does the metal of the soap disc matter?

Lightly moisten the spot where you will place the disc, then try pressing it in by hand. If the soap is still too firm, leave it on a damp sponge for a while to soften that area, then try again. You can then use the soap a few times without attaching it to the magnet, letting it dry between uses. This gives the soap a chance to settle around the teeth before it is subjected to the pull of the holder. |

If the disc comes out when you lift the bar off the holder, let the bar dry and firm up, then reduce the holder’s magnetic attraction if needed. With a removable Protector cover, a thin paper disc between the magnet and the Protector may help. |
How do you insert a soap disc into a bar of soap?
Place the disc in the centre of one face of the soap, teeth against the soap, and press it in by hand. Push it in until the metal face rests against the surface of the soap. It should remain visible: this is the side the magnet will attract.
If you moistened the soap to insert the disc, let it dry thoroughly before suspending it. Do not use a hammer.
