Suction cup won’t stick
When your suction cup won't stick – here’s how to make it work again
No worries – it happens to the best of us: the suction cup holds at first, but eventually it comes off. Suction cup not sticking? In most cases, it’s not the suction cup itself but small details on the surface. In this article, we’ll show you how to get the most out of your suction cup – especially with our magnetic soap holders from SAVONT.

The surface makes the difference
A suction cup will only adhere to a smooth, clean, dry, and non-porous surface. Ideal examples include:
- Glass or mirrors
- Glossy tiles (not matte!)
- Enamel
- Acrylic or plexiglass
If your surface is even slightly matte, textured, or micro-porous, it’s impossible to create a stable vacuum – and this applies to all suction cups, not just SAVONT.
Tip: Test the surface with any suction cup
Before installing the SAVONT soap holder, test the spot with any suction cup (like one from a shower basket or hook). If it sticks well, so will ours.
Place it once – and leave it be
Try not to move the suction cup too often. Repositioning it frequently can cause micro scratches on the back of the suction cup, which reduces long-term adhesion. It’s best to place it once and leave it there.
What if the suction cup gets hard or cloudy?
Over time – especially in wet environments – the suction cup material may lose some tension or become stiff. It can also turn cloudy. This is not a defect, but a normal physical reaction – and it’s reversible.
Here's how to restore it:
- Place the suction cup in very hot water (e.g., from a kettle) for 1–2 minutes.
- Then let it dry completely.
- It will regain its original flexibility and grip.
Important for specific models:
- Protector Edition & Jumbo: Only dip the edge of the suction cup – not the magnet!
- VARIO: Remove the magnet before dipping; you can fully submerge the suction cup.
